Sofistikken er filosofiens modsætning. Alligevel er de væsensforbundne, idet begge udfolder sig gennem sproget og angår de mest grundlæggende ting. Denne opfattelse er fælles for Platon og Heidegger, men hvor Platon forstår forskellen normativt, forstår Heidegger den ontologisk og ud fra sprogets tvetydighed.
